Doing a little surfing on my lunch break, I found a very interesting article on the ties between Saddam and Osama bin Laden. It was written by Gilbert Merritt, a democratic federal appeals court judge who is currently in Iraq helping with the rebuilding effort. In his article for the Tennessean, Document links Saddam, bin Laden, Judge Merritt makes the bold claim that not only is there a very strong link between the two “men” but that Saddam’s former regime had confirmed it themselves.

So while the Tinfoil Hat Brigade continues to make mountains out of a sixteen-word molehill, it’s becoming harder and harder to avoid the real reasons for war, regardless of your partisan political motives for doing so.

Should these documents come to indicate what Judge Merritt thinks they do, they will strengthen what was formerly one of the weakest reasons for war — the Iraq/Terror link. You still, of course, have the grotesque human rights violations, the operating biological weapons program, the hibernating (but not at all dismantled) nuclear arms program, and an active and forceful hatred of the US. Of course, if you’re a Democrat trying to get your boy elected, nothing short of a full-on nuclear attack would’ve justified the war, and that would’ve brought complaints that the Bush didn’t act quickly enough.

What I love is how some folks who defended Clinton’s right to lie under oath think Bush ought to be impeached for using information that may have been of questionable truth. These same people, on the other side of the coin, want to blame Bush for 9/11 — why? Because he DIDN’T use information of questionable truth. It’s a no-win situation for Bush and I think the american people are starting to realize that the Democratic Party is going nowhere, and fast.

This is all the more insane given the fact that there is real ammo to use against Bush: the Middle East peace roadmap is still a farce and is still essentially negotiating with terrorists (the Palestinians)… the Dems won’t ever use that though. Want to know why? Because that’s battle Bush can win if he wants to. If he were to change direction, they’d be left with nothing.
