It should be noted that Illinois is NOT a boring place to live. Observe:

Yesterday at about 4:15 the world tried, unsuccessfully, to end. Apparently a large cold-front moved through, dumped several inches of rain on Normal in an hour, and proceded to blow all sorts of things around including street signs, powerlines, and trees.

One of the latter managed to find itself lodged in our apartment complex, forcing the eventual evacuation of said complex. The Company came out and put up all of the interns in hotels for the night. Some are anticipating that we’ll be back in the apartments tonight, while some are claiming that we might have to be move permanently.

Interestingly enough, there are three articles in our local news paper about the storms last night: here, here, and here. Note, in the first one, that I live on the corner of Willow and School… not the building mentioned, but a building with the same fate as the one described.

Until further notice I’ll have access to email at work (8-4) but if you need me outside of those hours, you should call my cell phone. (205) 301-4912.

Update: the tree limb weighed 5,000lbs but it is now out of the apartment and we’re all moved back in. Except, of course, for those in the apartments which the tree tried to enter.
