I started hearing the twitterings of the CKI gossip mill some weeks back, inferring that a newly rumored candidate for Int’l VP (although not one likely to win, in my opinion) had been accused of some mishandling of club funds and would not be running for office, though whether that was her choice or someone else’s, I knew not. The person of which I speak is Shea &#091name redacted&#093, current club president and Immediate Past Governor of PA Circle K.

A few days ago I got a copy of her resignation letter, and while I’m not sure if she resigned of her own free will, or under duress, it has been requested that I post that email for the purposes of having it linked for discussion over at UnofficialCKI. Here goes (phone number has been removed for privacy):

UPDATE 6/27: It has come to my attention that this email may not have been written by Shea, though she claims that it was. I am awaiting further evidence in this matter from Shea.

To whom it may concern:
Effective July 7th, 2003 I am resigning as Club President for the University of Pittsburgh Circle K Club. This decision comes in the face of harsh accusations of mishandling of club funds. Although I believe these accusations to be unfounded and able to be proved untrue and rectified, I feel that the manner they were brought about and the handling of the situation is one so unacceptable that I can no longer continue my Presidency. As of September 30th, 2003 I plan on discontinuing my membership affiliation with the Circle K Organization.

I am very greatful [sic] for he opportunities to serve with all of you and I’m very devastated by the manner in which I have been treated, and the assumption of guilt rather than innocence that has been placed on me. However, I look forward to rectifying the situations at hand, moving on with my life, and perhaps someday in the near future, making a start with Kiwanis. I just feel that the club is not benefiting by the drawn out possibilities of resolution. I wish the club, and those involved with it, the best of luck. I will be excited to hear of the many successes you will encounter!

Should you have any questions, please contact me at xxx-xxx-xxxx.

Yours,

SheaBrianna [name redacted]

There are a few things that strike me about this email and while it may seem to be adding insult to injury to address them, I will anyway.

  • First off, I don’t know much (actually, none) about this particular situation, but just from having watched her away messages over the course of the last year, she tends to make herself the victim as often as possible, and makes things as &#091melo&#093dramatic as possible.

  • The hypocrisy and irony of this situation aren’t lost on me. It was always hard to say which side of the fence Shea stood on regarding the UnofficialCKI business, as it seemed to change depending on who she spoke to, but the end opinion that I got was that she figured the board had done the right thing and really cared very little for how the board went about deciding that. You’re all smart people and I leave connecting the dots here to you.

  • Last I heard, Shea was employed by the KI Office for the summer. Most respectable employers pay very close attention to their employees’ (and prospective employees’) conduct ESPECIALLY as it relates to crimes/offenses of dishonesty. It seems as though this is something the staff ought to look into — if the allegations prove to be true, it would be rather irresponsible to have her around the office, I think. Then again, she’d probably get along just fine with the likes of Casey and Steve. (Heck, now SHE’S been insulted on my website… the three of them can form a support group or something)

  • Finally, out of curiosity, if the allegations were, in fact “unfounded and able to be proved untrue”, what need would there be for rectification?

Just some thoughts… you can discuss HERE and/or in my comments.
