Saturday
The plan was to head to Amanda’s house in the ‘Ham so that we could leave earlier in the morning. Turns out two things were true: a) we didn’t really want to leave all that early and b) I managed to forget some of our “party supplies” in Tuscaloosa, so I had to go back. I was also forced to stay up way too late… doing lord knows what.
Sunday
I woke a little late, but managed to get to Amanda’s what I thought was on time. Turns out I had completely forgotten about this whole Daylight Savings Time bullshit. What’s up with that, anyway? I mean… we’re just going to change all the clocks back in a few months anyway. Luckily, Amanda forgot about it too. The trip down to Panama City Beach was pretty quick, and even more uneventful. When we got there we went grocery shopping and bought enough food to feed a small third-world country (plus several other large families). The church camp we were staying at (yes, a church camp) managed to put us in a building with a full (or close) septic tank. We were instructed to try to use the bathrooms in the nearby cabins. We could use our bathrooms “at our own risk.” Yeah, no thanks. We went to see the beach, tossed the football and frisbee and came back. On the way back, when walking with the girls, a rather redneck-looking guy, hanging out of a car window and yelled “Man… I wanna steal yo’ bitch, cousin!” No shit. It was hilarious… and probably the quote of the week. That evening we engaged in drunken debauchery of undisclosed types (after all, what happens in FL, stays in FL). This day also began a theme of hearing 50 cent’s “In Da Club” about two-dozen times a day. Go shorty. It’s your birthday. Yeah… it was in my head all week — still is, really.
Monday
We woke up far too early for NO good reason on Monday and cursed the mediocre weather. It was kinda warm, overcast (but bright out), and a bit windy. We went to the beach anyway for a few hours. The few hours we were at the beach was enough to prove that I’ve completely forgotten how to use sunscreen. I was pasty white except for a few patches I missed with the sunscreen, where I turned bright pink. It’s the new style. We met up with some other bama folk and hit the souvenir shops… I bought a shot glass and a pair of sunglasses… as if the sun was actually going to come out. Ha! Taco Bell, a “heated” pool, hot tub and a little more partying finished out the day.
Tuesday
We didn’t wake up early on Tuesday… but when we finally did, we cursed the simply awful rainy, nasty weather. I did some LSAT prep while it rained and though I didn’t go out much, I still managed to hear “In Da Club” about 50 times.
Wednesday
The sun made a short cameo on Wednesday. I took a picture to prove that we actually saw blue sky. It went away and got chilly. We browsed the shops again and that night went out for a nice sea food dinner. Mmmmm…. afterwords, we cruised the strip for a few hours… it was pretty packed so that was fun. Then we came back and amanda and I turned in to try to get some sleep before our early morning departure. She did. I didn’t… long story, but I ended up with, umm… and hour and a half or so of sleep.
Thursday
After almost no sleep, I got my tired ass up at 7:45 (yes Mom and Dad… I was up before 8:00) I also managed to stay awake for the entire trip back to Birmingham. We made decent time back, but it took me way too long to get from Amanda’s to the Airport and I was sure I was going to miss my flight to Baltimore — but I didn’t.
I’m going to save the Maryland/DC leg of the trip for tomorrow… but I’ve already tossed up the photos in the gallery. I really like this one but this one is pretty cool too. If I can get caught up on everything, I want to work on a collage from those pics. We’ll see.
Oh… I forgot to mention that I called to request a candidate packet for CKI President. Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m running… I mean… I couldn’t announce that here, you know… it’s against the rules to campaign outside of your home district prior to June… so I’m not announcing anything except that I called the office. Nothing wrong with that, right? Right.
