Today I woke up quite naturally (that is, to the call of a telemarketer) well before noon. I got out of bed, finished burning some CDs, installing some software on the computer, chatted on AIM for a while, and then decided to get to work.

At work I’ve been learning C#. Now, I’m not a big Microsoft kidna guy… but this is a really slick language. I’ll spare you the details because 90% of you couldn’t care less. At any rate, I’m reading a book about it at work and decided I wanted a copy of the book for my own personal usage (and so I could do some work from home this weekend).

So I grabbed a shower and headed to the local book store (Books-a-Million… though I’d prefer a Borders or a Barnes & Noble) and browsed through the section labeled “Techie Nerd Dork Books.” The thing that amazes me is that I can browse through other sections of the book store and find all sorts of books that look interesting, and that I think “Yeah, I might read that,” but the minute you move me over into the aforementioned “Techie Nerd Dork Books” section, I suddenly have an urge to read every book there. Even the 47 different books on exactly the same topic. After all, what if they have different hints and tips in them? I even want to read the books about things that I don’t use, and probably never will. Why? I don’t have the first clue. It’s probably because I’m a nerd.

So after restraining myself, and buying only one book (and the one I came for, at that), I decided to run to a nearby restaurant and be a server’s worst nightmare. A person who walks in alone, and with something to read. I sat for a while munching on Chips and Salsa and reading my book. It’s odd how many days I’d be completely content to just sit there and do that all afternoon. I eventually ordered food, ate (still while reading), paid, and left. (Those of you who, like me, used to work in a restaurant will appreciate the fact that I left a sizable tip for occupying his table for as long as I did)

It’s going to be more of the same tonight, I’ll probably go to the basketball game (Auburn is in town… which might explain the faint smell of manure drifting about campus) and do a good bit more reading. I’m not even through 100 pages of 600.

I’m not precisely sure what the point of this was except to, once again, prove my unfailingly nerdy nature, but that’s alright. Not everything needs a clear reason, I don’t suppose.

I rarely pull for Bama. Those rare times are when the Tide plays Allbarn. Please kick the shit out of the Barners.

    Manny.Comment(Null)…sorry wrong syntax

I\’d like to echo the sentiment about kicking the shit out of Auburn. And I do apologize for that manure smell, but at least you know the cause.

Well, Roll Tide kids… beat them we did, and soundly. :)

I can totally relate with the tech book thing. I have a bookshelf of stuff I never have time to read. I\’ve also banned myself from any Fry\’s/Best Buy/Circuit City/Good Guys type of store unless I know exactly what I need… then I get a few more things I don\’t. :/

Well, I\’ve got approximately 15,000 pages of material I\’ve got to read through in preparation for my CCIE. *1* 600-page book doesn\’t sound too bad.
