I have no doubt that some of you are here looking for an explanation as to why the Unofficial Circle K site is down. You’re in luck, I have just such an explanation right here!

Since it’s inception, Kiwanis has been trying (for reasons known only to staff and Nick Borghardt) to shut the site down. A few days ago, we (as site administrators) made a mistake and gave them such an opportunity. We instituted a ranking system for the Int’l Board. This was largely a joke, but it really got Kiwanis’ panties in a wad, and late this morning, Manny, Amy, and I received emails from Stan Soderstrom (the man in charge of Sponsored Organizations and Programs at Kiwanis) requesting a wide assortment of things. Some of which very reasonable (removing a few pictures we had used that were arguably property of Kiwanis Int’l, and removing the rating system), some of which just absurd (shutting down the site).

Despite complying with their reasonable requests, they still appealed to the webhost to shut the site down. Webhosts, especially big ones, by and large, would rather lose a customer than go to court. We are in the process of moving our site to a host that’s a little more personable and willing to work with us, and we should be up and running soon.

What’s really sad, to me, is that we sent an email to staff a while back asking them to talk to us if they had any issues. They didn’t. They chose, instead, to threaten us with lawsuits and revocation of membership in CKI. What is this organization coming to when you attempt to sue members of yours who are trying to help?

Well… worry not, avid Circle Kers, we’re not going anywhere.

Pete I think you should put up the letter/email sent from Stan on your site or on the new site. I know me and you don\’t agree on everything politically but them doing this is absolutely unbelievable, and at the same time, completely believable, because this is the Kiwanis Way. The members of this organization need to realize what the hell is going on in Indy. Because the members can\’t change things if they are not informed.

For sure, Bobby… both their email and our reply will be up on the new site ASAP. :)
