This afternoon the number 7 ranked Georgia Bulldogs decided to try to play football here in Tuscaloosa against the number 22 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The game was exciting, but it really comes down to a few factors:

1. Georgia’s short passing game. They’re receivers were good… so we gave them the short game all day long.

2. The Kicking Game. After taking a one point lead late in the game Bama stopped Georgia and forced them to punt. They stuck us back on our own 13 yard line and we got nothing on three consecutive plays. After a horrible punt of 20 yards (net), Georgia was in position to kick the game winning field goal.

3. Officiating. Georgia’s MVP has got to be the officiating crew. They neglected to call late hits all game, but there were a few plays specifically that made the difference in the game down the road. Both came in the first quarter.

For the entire first quarter, Georgia’s offensive line moved before the snap. Virtually every single play, and it was never called. On one particular play, that was also the case… until Georgia fumbled. We picked it up and started down the field when the flag came in. The official throwing the flag neglected to whistle the play dead, however. So, because this was a dead ball foul, in theory the play never happened. They gave the puppies the ball back, and backed them up five yards. Pretty nice compromise — get away with a penalty all game, but then have it called once instead of giving the other team six points. Beautiful.

On the same drive, a deep pass into the endzone was skillfully knocked away by the Bama cornerback… and then he was called for pass interference. The corner, however, didn’t look for the ball, or make any sort of contact until the guy had bobbled it a few times. So, instead of 4th down, and bringing out the punting unit, Georgia gets a first down.

We also mustn’t forget the long touchdown catch that Georgia’s receiver didn’t even get control of until he had rolled three yards out of the endzone.

What it all comes down to is that Georgia is the most overrated team in college football today. They have no business being in the top ten. They have no business being in the top 15. I have trouble believe they ought to be ranked in the top 20. Pat Dye was right… Georgia wasn’t man enough to beat Bama… they needed the zebras to help… and even with all that, it was still only two points… and it never would’ve been a win at all if we had a punter worth a crap.

Oh well. Georgia will find a way to embarrass themselves this year, no doubt. To quote AJ: “Red shirts, silver britches… go to hell, you sons-of-bitches.”

I agree with your assessments, did you notice how the ball was ALWAYS spotted one or two yards closer to the Georgia end-zone. Darn cross-eyed refs. The next to last drive was indicative of exactly where ALL our major injuries are. Running back: Couldn\’t run with our back to the opposing end-zone, and didn\’t dare through. Maybe Ahmad Galloway should have hobbled out there anyway. Punter: Couldn\’t punt our way out of a paper bag. Cross-apply above comment about Galloway to Bearden. Also, final drive, Freshman mistake a la Brody Croyle.

Shaun Alexander was sitting in the Yell Crew Section for some of the game… we wanted him to strap on some cleats and get out there… I\’d pay to see that.
