A girl wrote, in a letter to the editor, in our campus newspaper that she met a Georgia fan at a local hospital who had been beaten by Alabama fans after Georgia’s win here in Tuscaloosa. That reference was confirmed by a full fledged article in the Crimson White today.

Here are the facts, as they were given. The guy was beaten to the point that he had to be taken to the hospital. He was clad in Georgia propaganda from head to toe. He was hit with a beer bottle. All this took place on or near Frat Row. Sounds like a pretty appalling thing, right? Well, it is… but we must always remember that the truth usually lies somewhere between the two stories being told… and we haven’t even heard the other story yet.

I have two theories about the events that transpired after the game. Both of which, in my opinion, are equally likely.

The first is that he, like most of the other Georgia fans, acted as if they had never won a football game in the history of the school. Left the stadium hooting, hollering, jeering the Alabama fans, and generally looking to rub it in. He was probably one of those RV folks who was parked near Frat row and commenced the trouble-causing all the way back to his RV… or wanted to. Except that he probably did just as much, if not more, as he was passing by groups of Frat Boys. This, of course, is just dumb.

Now I’m not trying to say that, if this was the case, that the man DESERVED to be beaten… or that it was excusable for the frat boys to do so… but I understand. There’s a certain assumed risk that goes along with taunting drunken Frat Boys. What is that assumed risk? Well, it’s basically assumed that you’re going to get your ass kicked. As far as I’m concerned, if the guy was walking down Frat Row, causing all kinds of commotion about the fact that Georgia won, well, he was taking his life into his own hands and, quite frankly, he’s lucky it wasn’t worse.

The other very possible scenario, is that the man was wearing all sorts of Georgia crap and the frat boys were outraged by the fact that we got screwed out of the game, and took out some frustration on the guy. If THIS is the case, well, that’s just wrong and the Frat Boys should be locked up and forced to give all of their trust fund to the guy.

On the other hand, if the guy taunted the frat boys, they should have to give all of their trust funds to charity and the moron should chalk it up to a lesson learned.
