Yeah, yeah, yeah… so I’ve been extremely lax about updates lately. I suppose that’ll just have to be ok, though, because I don’t anticipate it changing much any time soon.

First off is to note that Alabama went to Knoxville, TN and beat Tennessee 34-14. The sports editor for the Knoxville News-Sentinel said that Bama was lucky to be on the field, and made the implication that we couldn’t have beaten them without them beating themselves. Unfortunately for them, even if it were true, it wouldn’t matter. It was a great game, and I’m looking forward to watching a replay of it sometime.

“A Replay?” you must be asking, “Why didn’t you watch it when it was on!? What kind of a Tide Fan are you?” Well, you see, I spent the weekend in North Carolina for [Circle K]. It was my sixth time to attend this particular annual conference and, as usual, I had a great time.

I was picked up at 3:45am on Friday to meet the charter bus in Birmingham at 5:00. We drove all day with [Key Club] and [Kiwanis] folks from all over the state before arriving at the Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, NC. A lot of the shots from 28 Days were filmed at the Assembly. It’s always beautiful drive up, and the assembly is always gorgeous. I have pictures. They’ll be up eventually, I guess.

This particular conference is a leadership development / team-building sort of conference, and a lot of the activities are done in “family groups”. The facilitator of the conference chooses Key Clubbers and Circle Kers to lead the family groups and I had the chance to be one of those group leaders. My group and co-group leader were awesome, and I had a blast. I got to see some folks that I haven’t seen in too long and (as usual) meet some new people.

It really was a great time… Here are some of the highlights, in no particular order:

  • Singing “Yea, Alabama” with the gang after the Bama win
  • Dressing up like an elephant
  • Winning the “race” up the mountain
  • “Yes, this is a very special kind of hell.”
  • Meeting “Katie Holmes”
  • Uno on the bus ride back
  • Catching Cindy in a “blonde moment”
  • Damp seats in the amphitheater
  • One word: Suspenders
  • Not getting locked out of the room after curfew.
  • Climbing the chimney on top of the mountain.
  • Dana.

Hopefully this week will go well… I think I’ve got it all under control, but you just never know.

Glad K-East was a good time. Its hard to believe that is the first year I wasn\’t there since we went there for the first time in 1997. I hope you gave a hard time to those who needed it (of course you did)
