We’ve all been brought up to believe that we should vote. It’s part of our national responsibility. The government is of the people, by the people, and for the people… so we’ve gotta participate, right?

I disagree. Our civic duty is not just to be a voter, but to be an INFORMED voter. If you’re not informed, just don’t vote. Most of the people who vote their party lines don’t really know what the people waving the banners stand for, what they plan to do in office, or what they’ve done in the past.

I really believe that the problems in the country are not caused by voter apathy, but by voter ignorance. If you want my opinion, if you’re not going to take the time to get up to speed on the issues and candidates, stay home on election day.

The candidates would like to disagree… in fact, it benefits the ones with lots of money if ignorant people vote. Why? They can afford to fund good PR. Good Marketing and PR is more important in America today than having a solid platform. How sad is that?

At the end of the day, I’d much prefer to have an informed 4% voting, than have 100% voting and only 4% know what they’re talking about. Call me elitist if you wish, but stupid people shouldn’t breed and ignorant people shouldn’t vote.

  2. 5 days, Pete. It\’s comin`!!

  3. Ahhhh…I so agree…it ticks me off when someone like my father just votes NO on everything because he doesn\’t want to take the time to read the damn measures.

  4. I agree, as well. I try to get as educated a view as possible through several avenues of information, and I do my best to choose what would be the most logical for me. I don\’t vote if I don\’t understand.

Happy early birthday, Ara! Hit Pete up for good presents!

  5. Well you\’re right Pete, candidates are too wrapped up in mud slinging and political BS its annoying. Ignorance is also plaguing voting body of this country. The Presidential election is a prime example of voter ignorance. Oh wait…it was the lesser of two evils.

  6. Oh, believe me, Tess, I\’ll definitely be doing that! :) It\’s only 4 days away!

  7. You know, I agree with you, however in my own little world it would be nice to think that people were informed enough to make that decision and we could have high turnout. Alas, the system works fine as it is….
