Well I’ll be dipped in shit. It’s been twelve weeks since I came home from the land of southern pride and redneck prejudice. Yesterday marked the end of my last week at work, and it was a good last week. The first half was spent finishing things up. I won’t go into detail as to why it took until the last week for that to happen, but it was cutting it close. The last two days, however, involved very little work, but a whole lot of getting things all set for my departure.

The people sitting around me brought in breakfast on Thursday — bagels and cream-cheese. Bringing in foodstuffs is a vital part of tradition there at the company. When someone leaves, moves, gets a promotion, gets married… or divorced, finishes a major project, channels Martha Stewart, or really does just about anything else, the people that they sit near find it necessary to bring food. It’s a great tradition as far as I’m concerned. That day they also took me out to lunch though, truth be told both the breakfast and the lunch were also for another co-worker of theirs. This particular person actually sat where I did before I came. The breakfast/lunch was in her honor too because she was taking another job closer to home. Once we got back from lunch I finished up the last semblance of work that I would do, and called it a day a little early.

Yesterday the company showed its appreciation for the interns with a breakfast (complete with eggs, sausage, bacon, muffins, etc…) that occupied a 3 hour time allotment on our respective schedules. I returned to my desk earlier than expected, but with enough time to clean up my stuff and get all packed up. We had the last project meeting that I would attend (at least until next summer), and then the folks that I actually worked with took me out to lunch. It was a rather extended lunch and we talked about all sorts of things. Got back, made sure that all of the important data was transfered to the appropriate people and, again, went home a little early after turning in my work badge / access card.

All in all it was a good summer. It kept me busy enough most of the time, not too busy too often, and occasionally gave me some down-time. I got to learn a few things, add some more resume stuff, and make some money. Today and tomorrow will be spent packing, doing laundry, and preparing for the trip back down to Alabama.

If I’m sparse for the next few days, this is why.

  1. So, am I missing something - or are you unemployed? Or just on vacation? Or? I am puzzled.

  2. Oh… this was a summer internship… now it\’s back to school. *bleh*

  3. Ah school - those were the days! And yes, i can still remember them - just ;)

  4. ahh, gotta love companies with traditions of feeding the employees. unless you\’re like me and tend to be fat, in which case it\’s an occupational hazard.

    still, the food is fun.

  5. Pete, I really don\’t know what your complaining about. You never go to class anyway, and you can always turn to the circle K projects, or simply piss off someone dumber than you with one of your patented over- generalizations.

  6. You do make a valid point there, Daniel. Pissing off stupid people is somewhat of a penchant of mine… and it\’s fun! I\’m actually thinking about going to some classes this year. Yeah, I\’ve said it before… but I figure if I don\’t start I may never graduate.

  7. why don\’t you just stay there?
