Once again my day has illustrated the wonderful yet terrible way that good and bad seem to accompany each other on their trips through my life. Which do you want first? Really? Too bad, you’re getting the bad news first.
License Suspension Update: This afternoon I wondered why it was exactly that I’m subjecting myself to the public humiliation of advertising the fact that as of wednesday I don’t have a valid driver’s license. I’m sure some psychologist could clue me in. Until then, however, you all get to hear all of the details.
Yesterday we found out that I’ve missed the timeframe required to go to driving school. In order for that to happen now I’d have to get a lawyer and a whole lot of other stuff. My hope for the summer hinged on a meeting with a hearings officer, or so I thought. Yeah, so I went to see said hearings officer today. Guess what he said? “Sure, you can apply for a work and school driving permit. Here are the forms. You should hear back in four weeks.” Wait… FOUR WEEKS? You’re kidding right? I didn’t even get the letter about the suspension until two days ago. Oh well. I filled out the form and, in four weeks I’ll know if I’m allowed to drive at all until September. Hopefully sooner.
I had planned on posting a scan of my license and letting you folks do whatever you wanted to with it in photoshop… unfortunately, they took it from me today when I applied for the permit. I’ll see if I can find another pic of an IL license online… if not, I guess I don’t get to have that fun.

Now for the good news… despite the nervousness that I faced my review over at The Weblog Review, it turned out pretty well. Wendy reviewed the site and granted it a 4.5/5.0 — quite gracious, I think. Her executive summary: “If only the “real” encyclopedia were this entertaining, I’d read it every day. That’s certainly how often I plan on visiting this site now.” Thanks! Some of the reviewers over at TWR have gotten some bad press, looks like I was lucky enough to get a good one.
