There’s nothing that annoys me quite like the stereotypical poster-children for the Feminist movement. It’s not feminism or equality that I’m put off by, quite the opposite — but The Movement, as far as I’m concerned, undermines everything that the less psychotic women work for on a daily basis. The Feminist movement has created, at least in my mind, two brands of participating women. Those two groups are the feminists and the feminazis. I take no issue with the former, but I’d like to banish the latter to the farthest reaches of some distant planet, or to the depths of the sea… for. ev. er.

Let me first take a moment to define my two terms, those definitions being central to understanding my point. In short, I think a feminist is a person (not a woman — a person) who believes that women should be treated fairly and not be subject to sexism. A Feminazi essentially carries superset of the feminist traits. In addition to those, the typical feminazi is a rude, man-hating woman (note: woman — not person) who will stop at nothing short of having the tables turned on men.

Therein lies my complaint. I’m a supporter of men and women receiving the same opportunities and rights without regard for their gender. I’m also a supporter of mandatory draft registration for women. As far as I’m concerned, any feminist who doesn’t think the women of the US should be required to register for the draft is a hypocrite of the worst kind, but I digress. I also feel that the Feminazis spend so much time worrying about trite and irrelevant nonsense that they really don’t do anyone any good.

Take, for example, the group of girls who allegedly want to change a line in the [Circle K] pledge. They want to change the word “mankind” to the word “humankind”. You’re kidding right? Nope… there’s actually a group of people who are offended that we use masculine language in our pledge. What I find curious is that these people don’t object to a wide variety of languages that assign gender to every noun in their vocabulary. Why not? That’s not fair, is it? Honestly, if there are any women college students who wouldn’t join the world’s largest collegiate service organization simply because of that one word… well… good, I’d prefer not to have them around. They can keep their dues dollars and do their service somewhere else.

Of course, then you have the women who turn everything into a sex issue. In fact, those are the very people who will criticize this as mysoginistic post. These are the folks who don’t want fair. They don’t want equal. They want the edge and advantage. I’d have to agree with Amy that the first thought that comes to a large number of people’s minds when the word “feminist” is uttered, is the thought of women bitching about men.

I think the Feminazis of the world actually do more bitching than working. Those are the people that spend more time bitching about not getting the promotion than they do working at that job. In most cases, I think the women who are truly being discriminated against are the ones who probably haven’t complained one bit, they just keep working harder and harder.

Shelagh makes a very valid point about the bad name of feminism being a catch 22 — feminists don’t want to be called feminists because of the image; so the only ones who call themselves feminists are the ones who conform to the image, thereby reinforcing it.

Really what it comes down to is that the Feminazi’s seek to rise above men by pulling them down while pulling themselves up… the Feminists want the same, except without pulling the men down. I’m not sure what causes the bitterness inherent in the Feminazi, but it certainly radiates from anyone who possesses it.

I think, to a large extent, the rabid feminists cause more problems for themselves than any man ever could — and they certainly deserve it.
